An Understanding Friend

I am not Afghan, but I am in a relationship with an Afghani. He was an exchange student my freshmen year of high school and we had been friends for a long time. I would always ask him questions about his culture because I was so curious and I wanted to be more informed.

In America we are so blind to the other cultures of the world, especially Middle Eastern. I didn't want to be like that, so I would always ask him about his culture, his beliefs, what he thought about certain topics and so on. Now that we are dating I have a better appreciation for his culture because I'm learning so much that the American media left out. He tore down all the previous conceptions I had of the culture, and now I have a greater respect for Afghanistan and Afghan culture.

Afghanistan is a regressive country submerged in a society which beholds back to the middle ages, as we in the west understand societies. Religion is essential to the general population, added to ingrained debasement, medication taking, and the way that a guarantee is not justified regardless of the paper it is composed of, which is something that is generally in that a world's peace.

There are lots of misconception people spread about different culture peoples and countries. i think main reason behind it there are communication gaps between countries and culture because of that it happens.

Same here, I’m also not an afghan but my neighbor belongs to Afghanistan. They are such a nice people I have never seen. Their life style, their behavior, their language are also good. They are not looking like a terrorist they are simple persons like us. I spent most of my time with them and also playing football and reading books also doing study in internet because we have find a lot of information about English because my neighbor want to speak English.

I really appreciate your time writing about your new Afghan friend and understanding his culture.

I am an Afghan living in the US too but watching and listening to the misguiding preaching of the Media against Middle Easterners and Muslims is heart breaking. Its really sad to see that hate, and racism is growing in this country.

I am very glad that you found someone who you can discuss your questions face to face rather than listening to the misguiding and corrupt media.

Afghans are very kind and hospitable, so I am sure he will take care of you well. It was great reading your post.
